BUTTERMILK CORNBREAD Regi Dean's Recipes 08/21/99 Cornbread Shirley Williams {*****} white or yellow cornmeal 1 cup flour 1/4 cup baking powder 1/2 tsp. egg 1 buttermilk 1 cup salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp shortening OR bacon drippings 2 tbsp {**********} Sift together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Add shortening, egg and buttermilk, mix thoroughly. Pour into well greased, piping HOT cast iron skillet. Bake at 450 degrees (preheat your oven) for about 20 minutes until brown.
